WHAT IS FOUND FICTION?
Found fiction is a catchall term for found document, found footage, epistolary, neo-epistolary, and (in some cases) ergodic literature. These are stories told in a “non-fiction” format, such as letters, transcripts, websites, “lost media,” etc.
ABOUT
Archive of the Odd is a zine that celebrates the weird and wonderful both in terms of story and format. We want to provide stories that engage readers and inspire them to look at both fiction and the world around them in a new way. To date, it has published four magazine issues, seven free-to-read stories, and one novella, Cat Voleur’s Revenge Arc.
Archive of the Odd is always looking for ways to expand how stories are shared, as well as storytelling itself. If you are interested in partnering with us, want to know more about our titles, or have any other questions, please email us at archiveoftheodd@gmail.com.
ARCHIVISTS
Head Archivist (Publisher, Editor-in-Chief): Cormack Baldwin
Cormack Baldwin conceived of Archive of the Odd as a home for stories that fall outside the bounds of usual prose. Instead, it became a full commitment to found fiction and book design. Outside of editing, designing, and publishing Archive of the Odd, Cormack Baldwin is a horror/fantasy author. He can probably be found at @cormackbaldwin.
Archival Assistant (Editor): EV Smith
EV Smith’s previous job was Archival Assistant. After joining Archive of the Odd, their work has ascended titles to encompass the more horrifying and arcane editing and social media management. When released from the depths of the archive, they write sci-fi, fantasy, cyberpunk, mystery, and anything else under the sun (or sometimes beyond it). Find them at @icelandicrain
Document Analyst (Associate Editor and Cover Design): Bee Olive
No one actually knows where to find Bee. Even the Archivists have resorted to arcane rituals to get her insight on stories and graphics, and must make tributes of metafiction to receive her cover designs. On the other hand, they’re pretty cool cover designs, and she also locked the Bird of Knowledge in a brass ring with alchemical symbols and refuses to let it out, so we’ll keep her.
Press Business
Archive of the Odd is a micropress, meaning we publish under 12 titles a year. Currently, given our intensive formatting process, we have the bandwidth for approximately two titles a year. We are looking to expand our work into smaller pieces such as chapbooks and mailers to bring even more stories to life.
As a micropress, our finances are also constrained by our sales. Currently we only pay token rates (plus royalties), but are working on sales, grant applications, and other sources of revenue to increase creator pay. When author pay reaches HWA qualifying rates (currently $0.05/word), and illustrator pay an equivalent amount, we plan to open a stipend-paying position for press roles (e.g. marketing) to increase our Archivists’ capacity to work on new titles without shortchanging creators. Our ultimate goal is to be able to pay SFWA qualifying rates to authors and professional rates for illustrators. If you’d like to talk about finances, Cormack would love to! Genuinely, he’s just happy someone cares about his spreadsheets.
